Academician Huanbin Liu

Process Modelling and Simulation & Soft Sensor & Intelligent Control


Huanbin Liu, professor, doctoral supervisor, is a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Engineering. He was the President of the South China University of Technology from 1995 to 2003. He has long been engaged in teaching, research, and management in higher education. He has chaired and undertaken more than 30 key projects at national and provincial levels, and has made breakthroughs in the fields of process modeling and simulation, soft measurement and intelligent control, energy saving and pollution control in the pulp and paper-making process. He has published more than 350 papers and 6 books; he was granted 25 invention patents; he also won 3 national awards and 12 provincial-and ministerial-level awards.

Prof. C. L. Philip Chen

C. L. Philip Chen is a Doctor, Distinguished Expert, Dean and Chair Professor at the School of Computer Science, South China University of Technology, and a Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University. He is the Vice President of the Chinese Society of Automation; IEEE Fellow; AAAS Fellow; IAPR Fellow; Academia Europaea; Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts; CAA Fellow; and HKIE Fellow. He was the editor-in-chief of IEEE Trans. on Cybernetics from 2020 to 2021; the editor-in-chief and general chair of IEEE Trans. on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems from 2014 to 2019. He is an editorial board member of Science China, Acta Automatica Sinica, IEEE Trans. on Fuzzy Systems, and IEEE Trans. on AI, as well as an associate editor of CAAI Trans. on AI. Prof. Chen is also the deputy director of Guangdong Provincial Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy. Currently, he is mainly focusing on intelligent control systems, computational intelligence, hybrid intelligence, and data science. He has been listed as a highly-cited researcher by Clarivate Analytics for four consecutive years (2018–2021). His previous honors include three Macao S & T Awards, the First Prize of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, and two IEEE TNNLS Outstanding Paper Awards. In 2016, he received the Outstanding Electrical and Computer Engineer Award from Purdue University. In 2018, he received the IEEE SSIT Norbert Wiener Award. In 2021, he was awarded the IEEE SMC Joseph G. Wohl Outstanding Career Award and the Wu Wenjun AI Outstanding Youth Award.

Prof. Renke He

School of Design, Hunan University

Product design theory and methods, design management, design and business model


Renke He is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Design, Hunan University. He was the Dean of the School of Design at Hunan University. In 2013, he was awarded an Outstanding Teacher under the Ten Thousand Talent Program. He was also a member of the Sub-Committee for Teaching Industrial Design in Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education, China, as well as a Member of the Discipline Assessment Group of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council, China. He has been teaching for 36 years. His previous honors include the top ten industrial design educators in China, a national teaching teacher, the first prize for national teaching achievements, the first prize for national teaching materials, the Xu Teli Education Award, and the first “Model of Teaching and Education in Hunan Province” nomination award. He is a reviewer of the Red Star Award, DIA Award, Red Dot Design Award, IF Design Award, and Good Design Award.

Prof. Sun Shouqian

Zhejiang  University, China

Industrial design


Shouqian Sun is a professor and doctoral supervisor at Zhejiang University, and a senior visiting scholar at Delft University of Technology, Netherlands. He serves as the director of the Center for Aircraft Innovative Design (Zhejiang University), director of ZJU-PolyU International Design Center, and director of the Degree Committee of Design Discipline at Zhejiang University. He is also a member of the Design Discipline Review Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council; a member of the Steering Committee of Design Teaching in Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education; Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Innovation Design Alliance of China; and Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of CMES Industrial Design Branch. He has undertaken many key projects during his scientific career, including 863 programs, National Natural Science Foundation Project, National Key Technology Research and Development Program, as well as major consulting projects supported by the Chinese Academy of Engineering. His previous honors include more than 4 national and provincial scientific and technological progress awards, and the gold medal of the China Design Contribution Award. More than 100 of his papers were included in EI/SCI journals. He has authored more than 10 books. He is holding nearly 100 software copyrights and patents.

Prof. Suihuai Yu

Northwestern Polytechnical University

Computer-aided industrial design (CAID), digital design, human-machine efficacy design


Suihuai Yu is a professor and doctoral supervisor at Northwestern Polytechnical University.

He is holding several positions, including:

•Deputy Director of the Sub-Committee for Teaching Guidance of Industrial Design of the Ministry of Education;

•Vice President of China Industrial Design Association;

•Director of the Key Laboratory of Industrial Design and Human-Machine Ergonomics of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology;

• Director of the Industrial Design Engineering Laboratory of Shaanxi Province;

•Director of the Industrial Design Institute of Northwestern Polytechnical University;

• Director of the National Industrial Design Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

He was awarded an Excellent Teacher in Shaanxi Province; he is a recipient of the Silver Award from the China Guanghua Foundation for his outstanding contributions, and a winner of the Outstanding Teacher Award of Baogang, Shaanxi. He has undertaken more than 10 research projects including national program for key science and technology projects and 863 programs. He has also completed more than 10 projects for the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Aeronautical Science Fund of China, and Natural Science Foundation of Shaanxi Province, and has chaired 4 talent-support projects for outstanding Chinese overseas students. In recent years, he has published more than 60 papers in domestic and international core journals and authored 4 books.

Prof. Jie Hu

Innovative design & Knowledge management & Multi-disciplinary collaborative modeling and design


Jie Hu, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, is Executive Vice-Dean at the School of Design, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. As the project manager, he has chaired 1 major project for the National Social Science Foundation (chief expert), 7 projects for the National Natural Science Foundation of China (including 1 key project), 1 National 973 Program project, and 1 National 863 Program. He is the author of 7 books. He has published 203 papers with 590 citations in SCI journals and 1,485 citations in Google Scholar. He has been selected as a Changjiang Scholar of the Ministry of Education, a leading talent in science and technology innovation in the “Ten Thousand Talent Plan”, and leading youth in science and technology innovation for the Ministry of Science and Technology, China.

Prof. Tan Hao

School of Design, Hunan University, China

Machine behaviour


Hao Tan, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, is the Vice Dean at the School of Design, Hunan University. He was selected as a National Young Talent by the Ministry of Education, China (2021), a Furong Scholar of Hunan Province (2020), and a Young Backbone Teacher of Hunan Province (2011). He graduated from Hunan University in December 2006 with a Ph.D. Degree. From January 2007 to January 2008, he worked as an interaction designer at Alibaba (China). From January 2008 to February 2009, he worked as a researcher at the Google AI China Center. He has been working at Hunan University since March 2009. He also serves as the director of Baidu-Hunan University Intelligent Design and Interactive Experience Joint Innovation Laboratory, and a member of the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Design and Manufacturing for Vehicle Body.

His research interest is machine behavior, which includes intelligent design, interaction design, human factors, and user experience. Specifically, his research mainly relates to user experience design of transportation tools, safety accidents and major health event-oriented emergency design based on the design science, behavioral science, data science, and machine intelligence.

Prof. Lijun Jiang

Guangdong Research Center for Human-Computer Interaction Design of Guangdong

Automatic driving HMI design research, health and sustainable product design, intelligent product design and development


Lijun Jiang (Professor and Master Supervisor) currently serves as the Director of Guangdong Research Center for Human-Computer Interaction Design of Guangdong, Director of Center of Digital Design for Virtual Simulation of Guangdong, Director of CAD lab (South China University of Technology, SCUT), Executive Director of Guangdong Engineering Graphics Society, and Member of ACM SIGGRAPH. He was the Vice President of the School of Design, SCUT, and was awarded the title of “My Favorite Supervisor” by SCUT. His research interests include ergonomics, intelligent product design, and human-machine interaction design for automated vehicles. He has chaired more than 30 national- and provincial-level science research projects for the National Nature Science Foundation of China and the National Science and Technology Support Program. He has published 4 textbooks, including Computer Processing of Digital Images; he has published 68 papers in domestic and international journals and conferences; he was granted 4 invention patents, including 1 US patent and 30 other patents.

Prof. Ruiqiu Zhang

South China University of Technology

Information and interaction design, industrial design, computer graphics, computer-aided design


Ruiqiu Zhang is a doctor, master’s advisor, and professor at South China University of Technology. He is currently the vice dean of the School of Design at South China University of Technology, and is also the chair of the Guangdong Engineering Graphics Society. His research interests include industrial design, information and interaction design, engineering graphics and computer graphics. He has long been engaged in the teaching related to design in universities, and has been involved in designing projects for the government and enterprises with the design team. In recent years, he has chaired and participated in more than 50 research projects for the National Science and Technology Major Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the Ministry of Education, and enterprises. He has published 45 papers in domestic and international journals. He has authored 8 monographs and textbooks, and was granted more than 30 patents of various kinds. His previous honors include the first prize in the Teaching Achievement Awards of Guangdong Province in 2014 and 2017, the second prize in the National Teaching Achievement Award in 2018, and the second prize in the Teaching Achievement Award of Guangdong Province in 2019.

Prof. Fenghong Wang

School of Design, South China University of Technology

User experience design, interactive interface design, virtual interaction design, usability evaluation


Fenghong Wang (Professor, Master’s Advisor) is Associate Dean of the School of Design, South China University of Technology.

She is currently the executive director of the China Graphics Society (CGS) and the director of the CGS Sub-Committee on Computer-Aided Industrial Design. She has authored 5 textbooks, including one Twelfth Five-Year Plan textbook. She was granted more than 40 patents (including utility patents). She has presided over the first prize of the seventh and ninth teaching achievements of Guangdong Province, the second prize of the 2018 national teaching achievements, and participated in the first prize of the 2018 national teaching achievements. She has been awarded the “Outstanding Teacher Award of Guangdong Higher Education”, “Excellent Teacher of South Guangdong” as well as “Excellent Instructor” in the China UX Design Competition.

Prof. Wang has guided students to win many awards in major international competitions such as Red Dot Design Award, IF Design Award, UX design competition, and National Robotics Competition (Second Prize). She also lectured a national-class open course “the Colorful World of Graphology”. She cooperated with many enterprises in Guangdong Province, such as Tencent and KENNEDE, and completed several projects on industrial product design, data visualization for systems, user experience design, service design and optimization, etc. She has developed many children’s products, including strollers, safety seats, and dental equipment, and she designed several power-driven vehicles, trailers, as well as paper furniture. Besides, she also conducted an in-depth study on healthy aging products for the elderly.

Prof. Ting Han

Ting Han (Professor, Doctoral Supervisor) is Vice Dean at the School of Design, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He was granted a professor (Dual) at the Institute of Medical Robotics, a young Changjiang Scholar (2019), a selected member of the Shanghai Pujiang Talent Program, an Outstanding Teacher of Baogang, and a Tang Lixin outstanding scholar. He is a top ten educator of the China Industrial Design Association, a member of the Industrial Design Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, vice president of the China Industrial Design Association, member of the Management Committee of the Shanghai Design Capital Promotion Center, head of the Cultural and Creative Base of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and head of the Scientific and Creative Base of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission. In 2017, he won the first prize of the Shanghai Teaching Achievement Award (ranked first).

Jingyan Qin (Professor) serves as Dean of School of Mechanical Engineering, University of Science and Technology Beijing; Ph.D. Supervisor of School of Computer & Communication Engineering, University of Science and Technology Beijing; Vice President of Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Hong Kong Institute of Science & Innovation, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Director of Center for Science and Technology Aesthetic Education; and Deputy Director of National Base of Excellent Cultural Heritage in Universities. He is also a member of the International Network Education Consortium of the University of Cambridge, a National Visiting Scholar of the University of Cambridge, the Executive Director of the Information and Interaction Design Committee of the Chinese Society of Industrial Design, a member of the Human-Computer Interaction Committee of the Chinese Computer Society, and a senior member of the ACM. He has chaired more than 20 projects for the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Social Science Foundation of China, and more than 60 research projects for enterprises. He has won more than 30 design awards such as Red Dot Award and Red Star Award in automated vehicles, robot design, big data visualization, intelligent product design, metaverse development for gaming, virtual museum, and digital cultural heritage. He has published more than 140 papers in SCI- or EI-indexed journals; he has authored 10 books and was granted 15 invention patents. His research interests cover the design of big data, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, and innovative design, including meta-cosmic meta-design, aesthetic aesthetics of science and technology, quantum thinking and innovative design, robot design, design for automated vehicles, intelligent clothing design, intelligent product design, big data psychometry and accurate recommendation, information visualization and visual analysis, service design, sustainable design, game design, visual thinking research, digital cultural heritage, and cultural and creative industry.

Prof. Chunlei Chai

Zhejiang University

Design innovation theory and application


Chunlei Chai, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor, serves as Dean of International Design Institute of Zhejiang University; Deputy Secretary-General of Industrial Design Branch, Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society; Deputy Director of Institute for Modern Industrial Design (Zhejiang University); and Head of Review Group for Business Model Design. His research focuses on design cognition, analogical reasoning, cultural innovation, design strategies, etc. He was one of the first researchers to study the integration of design and business in China, and published the first book “Design for Business Innovation” in China related to this field. In the book, he proposed a theoretical framework that consists of three parts: business insights, business design tools, and business models. As a project manager, he has undertaken several projects for the National Social Science Fund of China, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, etc. He has published many high-level papers in international journals such as the Design Journal, Design Studies, International Journal of Industrial Ergonomics, Computers in Human Behavior, etc. He has also published four books and edited one textbook.
